And yes, square tops are next.Ĭlick to expand.6 years and counting on my Dynalite blades (on SGG shafts) - Like others, I was drawn in by the light weight, but a bit concerned about durability. I think they're bad ass and will likely never buy anything without again. I saw the blade flex to about 45 degrees - then pop loose and right back in place. I've had two situations that I expected to break a blade, I mean fold it in half. That was my yearly cycle - that and buying 6 more straps every year, but that's another story. Most were functional for a while but I bought at least one new blade every year and threw the worst spare away. I broke at least one Carlisle blade every year for 12 years prior to getting the dynelites. I have worn my tips down, all the dynel edging is worn off around the entire tip and I hope to send them back for a rebuild this winter (I was told 8 years ago when I bought them that they were fixable/rebuildable). as detachable blades anyways - maybe the cataract razors are lighter but I haven't heard much in actual use from them. I agree, people seem to act like they're fragile, but in my opinion they are BY FAR the strongest blades out there and at least amongst the lightest, if not the lightest. I swear they even outnumber Carlisle's here in Bozeangeles, Gearcity, Braville.Ĭlick to expand. I do think however, that making the blades replaceable would ruin the feel and balance though so I don't expect, nor even want that "issue" to ever change.Įdit - the other issue with square tops is that beautiful wood takes a beating and I see a lot that look like hell around here. I too go weak in the knees for gear and would love a set of square tops, but like you I'm weary of the non-replaceable blades. If they're not counter balanced they will float right (until they fill with water, unless sealed - which they should be from the factory) I'm not sure how their newer 2lb handles float, better I'm sure but how much? If it were me I'd figure it out in an eddy some day.hell tie one off and let it float while enjoying camp, see how long it floats. If your SGG's are counterbalanced with the standard 4 lbs of steel, they won't float right, they'll float handle down. I don't really like tethers for most of what I do, so floating was important to me. Click to expand.I checked right after I rigged my counterbalances, just so I didn't find out the hard way.
